Kanab

Local-first meeting memory · macOS

Meetings, on your Mac.
Not in someone’s cloud.

Transcribes your meetings, types when you dictate, and hands the archive to the AI you already pay for. All on your laptop. No bot in the call. No upload.

01 · What it is

A small Mac app that remembers everything you said this quarter.

It records your meetings, transcribes them, and figures out who said what. The audio stays on your laptop, in a folder you picked.

Most AI notetakers send everything to a server. Kanab keeps it on the device you’re already using.

02 · How it works

Four moves. Then it gets out of the way.

  1. 01

    Install

Drag, drop, grant the permissions. About a minute to set up.

  2. 02

    Speak

Hit a hotkey for a meeting, or hold one to dictate. Kanab listens locally.

  3. 03

    Recall

Search by name, by date, by what got said. Click a line, hear it.

  4. 04

    Hand it to your AI

One click hands Claude or Cursor a read pass to the archive.

03 · Connect your AI

Open protocol.
Connect whatever you trust.

Kanab speaks MCP, the open standard for AI tool use. Anything that speaks it can read your archive over a local connection.

We give you one-click setup for the common ones. Everything else gets a config you can paste.

local · token-scoped · never the internet

04 · What it does

Built for the meetings you’re already in.

Audio

System and mic, captured in parallel.

Two streams, kept separate. Works with Zoom, Meet, Teams, anything that plays through your Mac.

Diarization

Figures out who said what.

Speaker labels run on the device. Rename a voice once, and the label sticks.

Dictation

Types at your cursor, anywhere.

Hold a hotkey, speak, release. Text appears in any field in any app, fast.

Search

Find a quote by what it meant.

Full-text and semantic search across every meeting. Pull a line, hear the moment.

Storage

Your archive, where you want it.

Pick a folder anywhere: local, iCloud, or any custom path you choose.

Devices

Every Mac. iPhone, read-only.

Sign in elsewhere and your archive shows up there, end-to-end encrypted in transit.

05 · Promises

Things we won’t do,
in plain language.

  1. 01

    No cloud AI. Ever.

The AI doing the work is the one already on your machine. Kanab doesn't host models or charge per use.

  2. 02

    Audio never leaves your Mac.

Recordings stay in a folder you pick. The only thing that crosses the network on a normal day is a daily license check.

  3. 03

    No bot in the call.

Kanab doesn't dial in or show up as a participant. It listens to your computer's audio the way your headphones do.

  4. 04

    You can leave with everything.

Your archive is a real folder full of real files. Cancel and it's still yours, still on your Mac.

07 · FAQ

Honest answers to the obvious questions.

Does it work with Zoom, Meet, Teams, Slack huddles?
Yes. Kanab captures system audio, so any app that plays through your Mac is fair game.
Is there an iPhone app?
Read-only. View, search, and ask your AI about synced meetings. Recording stays on the Mac.
Which AI clients can connect over MCP?
Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and ChatGPT Desktop have one-click setup. Anything else that speaks MCP works too.
