Kanab

Terms

The deal between you and Kanab.

Plain-language terms covering use of the app, your data, and the part that matters most for a voice tool: you, not Kanab, are responsible for the recordings you make.

01

Acceptance and changes

These Terms cover your use of Kanab, the desktop app and any service it talks to. By installing or using Kanab, you agree to them. If you don’t, don’t install or use the app.

We may update these Terms when product or law changes require it. The current version, plus the date it was last updated, is always at the top of this page. Material changes are surfaced in the app on your next launch.

02

License to use Kanab

We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to install and use the Kanab desktop app on Macs you own or control, subject to these Terms and your active subscription. The app itself runs on your machine; the license does not grant rights to redistribute, sublicense, decompile, or use Kanab to build a competing service.

03

Your data, your device

Audio, transcripts, embeddings, and the memory graph stay on your Mac unless you explicitly opt into a cloud surface (Team sync, encrypted audio backup). You own your data. Where data does leave the device, see the privacy policy for what we store and how long.

We do not train any model on your content. We do not read your transcripts. We don’t have a copy of your audio.

04

Recording is your responsibility

Kanab records audio you direct it to capture from your own microphone and your Mac’s system audio. You are responsible for compliance with all applicable recording, wiretap, and privacy laws on the recordings you make, including obtaining consent from other meeting participants where required.

Some US states and many countries require everyone on a call to consent before you record it. A non-exhaustive plain-language summary, including the list of US all-party-consent states, is on the recording legality page. That page is informational, not legal advice; when the answer matters, consult an attorney.

You agree not to use Kanab to record conversations where doing so would violate the law in any jurisdiction connected to the call, including the location of any participant. You agree not to use Kanab to record covertly where covert recording is illegal, to capture privileged communications you are not entitled to, or to harass any individual.

05

Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Kanab and its operators from any third-party claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your recordings, your use of Kanab in violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right in connection with content you create with the app. This includes claims by people you recorded without obtaining required consent.

06

No warranties

Kanab is provided as is and as available. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app is uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcripts, summaries, or any other output are accurate.

Kanab is not a substitute for human judgment. Don’t rely on Kanab’s output for medical, legal, financial, or any other consequential decision without independent verification.

07

Limits on liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to Kanab is limited to the greater of $100 or the total fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Neither side is liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow these limits in full. Where that is the case, the limits apply to the extent allowed.

08

Ending the agreement

You can stop using Kanab at any time by quitting the app and uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or use Kanab to do something illegal. Local data on your Mac stays where it is; we don’t reach in to remove it.

09

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Kanab will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you consent to that venue. Nothing here waives any non-waivable consumer rights you have under the law where you live.
